Solution

Feature Exons Introns
Meaning They are coding sequences that carry information for protein synthesis. They are non-coding sequences that do not code for any protein.
Occurrence Found in both DNA and the mature mRNA. Found in DNA and the initial pre-mRNA, but absent in mature mRNA.
Splicing They are joined together after the non-coding parts are removed. They are removed/spliced out during RNA processing.
Function They represent the actual “expressed” genes. They are often involved in regulating gene expression and alternative splicing.
Conservation Highly conserved (they don't change much between species). Less conserved and accumulate mutations more rapidly.
