Solution
The reaction in which an unsaturated hydrocarbon combines with another substance to give a single product is called an addition reaction.
Example:
Addition of hydrogen to ethene (unsaturated hydrocarbon) in presence of nickel to form ethane (saturated hydrocarbon)
\[\ce{CH2 = CH2 + H2 ->[Ni catalyst][heat] CH3 - CH3}\]
