Solution

The general electronic configuration of lanthanoids is [Xe] 4f1−14 5d0−1 6s2, while the general electronic configuration of actinoids is [Rn] 4f1−14 5d0−1 7s2. Hence, lanthanoids belong to the 4f series, and actinoids belong to the 5f series.
