Briefly explain the causes of Asthma.

Asthma results from a combination of environmental and genetic (inherited) factors. Common triggers include:

• Airborne allergens such as pollen, dust mites, mould spores, pet dander and cockroach waste
• Respiratory infections like the common cold
• Physical activity (exercise-induced asthma)
• Cold air
• Air pollutants and irritants such as smoke
• Certain medicines like beta blockers, aspirin, ibuprofen and naproxen
• Strong emotions and stress
• Sulfites and preservatives in some foods and drinks
• Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
