The British also developed railways and ports to transport goods and raw materials quickly for export.

Some effects of these changes can still be seen today. India continues to have strong trade links with Britain and other countries, and many ports, railway routes, and commercial centres developed during the colonial period remain important. The colonial period also influenced India’s position in global trade and its economic policies.
