Solution

During British colonial rule, the education system in India underwent major changes. The British introduced English-language education and established schools and colleges based on Western methods. Macaulay’s education policy gave importance to English and aimed to create Indians who could work in the British administration. At the same time, traditional systems of Indian education, such as gurukuls and madrasas, lost importance.

Some effects of these changes can still be seen today. English is widely used in Indian schools, colleges, government offices, and professional fields. The modern education system, including universities and formal examinations, also has roots in the colonial period. While colonial education helped introduce new ideas and institutions, it also weakened many traditional Indian systems of learning.
