Akbar’s Rajput policy sought to win Rajput loyalty to consolidate his empire. He used matrimonial alliances, restored defeated chiefs’ kingdoms on accepting suzerainty and tribute, appointed Rajputs to high posts, treated them with respect, and abolished the pilgrim tax and jaziya to gain goodwill and military cooperation.
