While it is important to understand the past, it is more important to value the future. Why?

Understanding the past helps us recognise how human society has developed and learn from earlier successes and mistakes. However, the past cannot be changed or relived. The future, by contrast, is still open to possibility and can be shaped by what we do today. Valuing the future encourages us to look beyond old divisions, meet new challenges and work towards a better world. It also gives our knowledge of history a purpose: lessons from earlier times should guide wiser decisions, not keep us tied to outdated ways of thinking. Nehru’s message is that we should respect the past, but direct our energy, responsibility and hope towards creating the future.
