उत्तर

  1. Population explosion: The world population is increasing at the rate of 2 persons per second or 2,00,000 persons per day or 60 lakh persons per month or approximately 7 crore per year. This rapid increase in population is called a population explosion. This happens due to a decrease in the death rate and a lack of a desired decrease in the birth rate.
  2. Causes of Population Growth: The increased population in any area in a given time is called population growth. The following are the causes of population growth –
    1. Due to health facilities, there has been a decrease in Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) and Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR).
    2. Increase in the number of reproductive persons.
    3. Improvement in standard of living due to good health services.
    4. Due to illiteracy, people do not have knowledge of the means of family planning and the methods of family planning are not fully adopted.
    5. Increase in the production of food grains due to scientific and technological progress.
    6. Many epidemics can be eliminated through community health programmes.
    7. Due to low social status, most poor people believe that the more children they have, the more money they will earn by working.
    8. Due to social customs, couples keep producing children in the desire to have a son.
