उत्तर

(i) Calorie: It is the quantity of heat required to raise the temperature of 1 gm of water by 1°C (more accurately the rise in temperature is taken from 14.5°C to 15.5°C).
(ii) Kilo calorie: It is the quantity of heat required to raise the temperature of 1 kg of water by 1°C. It is equivalent to 1000 calories.

A geyser heats water flowing at the rate of 3.0 litres per minute from 27 °C to 77 °C. If the geyser operates on a gas burner, what is the rate of consumption of the fuel if its heat of combustion is 4.0 × 104 J/g?

The coolant in a chemical or a nuclear plant (i.e., the liquid used to prevent the different parts of a plant from getting too hot) should have high specific heat.

It is generally cold after a hail-storm then during and before the hail storm. Give reason.

Name and state the principle used to measure the specific heat capacity of a substance.

Give one example where high specific heat capacity of water is used as cooling.

Define specific heat. Is it same as heat capacity?

What change in heat energy occurs when lead at its melting point
solidifies without change in the temperature?

Derive an expression for finding out the specific heat capacity of a body (solid) from the readings of an experiment given below:

(i) Mass of empty calorimeter (with stirrer) = m1 gm

(ii) Mass of the metal piece = M gm

(iii) Mass of colorimeter and water = m2 gm

(iv) Initial temperature and water = t1°C

(v) Temperature of hot solid (metal piece) = t2 °C

(vi) Final temperature of the mixture = t°C

(vii) Specific heat of calorimeter = 0.4 J gm / °C

Explain why the specific heat capacity at constant pressure is greater than the specific heat capacity at constant volume.

If specific heat capacity of metal A is 0.26 Jg-1 0C-1 then calculate the specific heat capacity of metal B.
