प्रश्न

Consider the equations `P=lim_(triangles->0)"F"/(triangle"S")` and P1 - P2 = pgz. In an elevator accelerating upward

पर्याय

  • both the equations are valid

  • the first is valid but not the second

  • the second is valid but not the first

  • both are invalid

उत्तर

the first is valid but not the second
For a point inside the elevator, pressure can be defined as `P=lim_(triangles->0)"F"/(triangle"S")`.  It is independent of the acceleration of the elevator.
The modified form of the second equation, which will be valid in the given case, is given by P1 - P2 = ρ(g+a0)z

Here, acceleration a0 (say) due to elevator accelerating upwards is also taken into account.

Draw a simple diagram of a hydraulic jack and explain its working.

66640 Pa pressure is exerted by 0.50 m vertical column of a liquid. If g = 9.8 Nkg−1, calculate the density of the liquid.

The area of cross-sections of the pump plunger and press plunger of a hydraulic press is 0.02 m2 and 8 m2 respectively. If the hydraulic press overcomes a load of 800 kgf, calculate the force acting on the pump plunger.

Select the correct option.

How does the liquid pressure on a diver change according to the following condition:

When the driver moves horizontally

How does the liquid pressure on a diver change according to the following condition:

When the driver moves to the greater depth?

The following figure shows a manometer containing a liquid of density p. The limb P of the manometer is connected to a vessel V and the limb Q is open to atmosphere. The difference in the levels of liquid in the two limbs of the manometer is h as shown in the diagram. The atmospheric pressure is P0.

(i) What is the pressure on the liquid surface in the limb Q?

(ii) What is the pressure on the liquid surface in the limb P?

State the principle on which a hydraulic press works. Write one use of the hydraulic press.

What is meant by the term buoyancy?

What are the factors on which the pressure of a liquid depends?

Do all liquids exert pressure?

State two applications of Pascal's law.

State two uses of a hydraulic press.

Pascal’s law is used in

Assertion: Pascal’s law is the working principle of a hydraulic lift.

Reason: Pressure is thrust per unit area.

A hydraulic press can lift 100 kg when a mass 'm' is placed on the smaller piston. It can lift ______ kg when the diameter of the larger piston is increased by 4 times and that of the smaller piston is decreased by 4 times keeping the same mass 'm' on the smaller piston.

Consider a water tank shown in the figure. It has one wall at x = L and can be taken to be very wide in the z direction. When filled with a liquid of surface tension S and density ρ, the liquid surface makes angle θ(θ << 1) with the x-axis at x = L. If y(x) is the height of the surface then the equation for y(x) is:

(take θ(x) = sin θ(x) = tan θ(x) = `dy/dx`, g is the acceleration due to gravity)
