उत्तर

Distance travelled s = 100 m

Average velocity V = 20 m/s

Final velocity v = 25 m/s

(i) Let u be the initial velocity.

Average velocity = (Initial velocity + Final velocity)/2

V = (u + v)/2

20 = (u + 25)/2

u = 40 - 25 = 15 m/s-1

(ii) Let 'a' be the acceleration of the car.

Using the third equation of motion,

v2 - u2 = 2as

We get,

(25) 2 - (15) 2 = 2 (a) (100)

625 - 225 = 200 a

a = (400/200) m/s2 = 2 m/s-2

State whether distance is a scalar or a vector quantity.

What can you say about the nature of motion of a body if its displacement-time graph is A straight line parallel to the time axis?

A body is moving in a straight line and its displacement at various instants of time is given in the following table

Time (s) 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7
Displacement (m) 2 6 12 12 12 18 22 24

Plot the displacement-time graph and calculate

(i) Total distance travelled in the interval 1 s to 5 s.

(ii) Average velocity in time interval 1 s to 5 s.

Define Displacement.

Can you suggest the kind of motion of a body from the following distance – time graph?

A body moves along a circular path of radius r. When it completes three complete rounds, what is the ratio of distance covered to its displacement?

Match the following.

1. Displacement Knot
2. Light travelling through vacuum Geometric centre
3. Speed of ship Metre
4. Centre of gravity of geometrical shaped objects Larger base area
5. Stability Uniform velocity

Assertion: Displacement of a body may be zero when distance travelled by it is not zero.

Reason: The displacement is the shortest distance between initial and final position.

A body is projected up with an initial velocity of u m/s. It goes up to a height, ‘h’ meters in seconds' time. Then it comes back at the point of projection.

Considering negligible air resistance, which of the following statement is true?

Displacement is the ______ distance covered by a body.
