Solution
- Food quality is the set of characteristics by which food is accepted or rejected. It is important at every stage, from production and handling to storage and consumption.
- It is judged by physical features such as size, shape, colour, texture and appearance, and by microbiological load and changes in chemical composition.
- Food should be free from dirt, foreign matter, harmful microorganisms, pests and unsafe contaminants. Poor-quality or contaminated food can cause illness.
- Consumers should check labels, seals, dates and recognised marks such as FSSAI and AGMARK, and avoid suspiciously coloured or adulterated foods.
