Main characteristics of chordates:
(i) They have a dorsal, hollow, tubular nerve cord.
(ii) Notochord is present that is ventral to the nerve cord.
(iii) They possess paired gill-slits in the pharynx.
(iv) They have a ventral heart with dorsal and ventral blood vessels and closed blood vascular system.
