- Secularism is one of our goals, as per our Preamble. Accordingly, all religions are considered equal. No one religion is considered the state religion and the citizens are free to follow their own religion.
- Also, to make India a ‘Sovereign, Socialist, Secular, Democratic Republic’, the principles of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity have been included in our Preamble.
- Implementing a uniform civil code for citizens will help realise the above goals, support the above principles, and prevent any discrimination among individuals on the basis of caste, creed, race, language, region, place of birth, or sex.
- This will help realise the larger goal of public welfare, which in turn will help the nation progress. Hence, the provision of a uniform civil code for citizens is included in the Directive Principles of the Indian Constitution.
