Solomon Asch is famous for his classic experiments on conformity that showed how group pressure can influence individual judgement. In his 1950s studies, participants were asked to match the length of lines while in a group where confederates (actors) deliberately gave wrong answers.

Asch found that many participants conformed to the group’s incorrect choice, even when the correct answer was obvious. His research demonstrated that people often conform to avoid social disapproval or to fit in with the group, highlighting the power of social influence on individual behavior.
