Psychosis is a type of mental illness characterized by a loss of contact with reality. Individuals suffering from psychosis have no insight into their condition and do not realize that they are ill. They may experience symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions, disorganized thinking, and behavior that markedly deviates from normal social functioning. Unlike neuroses, where the individual retains awareness of their condition, psychotic patients show a complete break from reality, which can significantly impair their ability to function in everyday life. Psychosis may develop as a part of various psychiatric disorders, including schizophrenia and substance-induced mental disorders.
