Several plants have medicinal properties which can be used as medicines. Some of the plants grown for their medicinal value are:

  1. Cinchona: Quinine, a drug used in the treatment of malaria, is obtained from the bark of the Cinchona tree.
  2. Rauwolfia (Sarpagandha): This plant is used for the treatment of hypertension and insomnia.
  3. Belladonna: Alkaloids obtained from the roots of this plant are used as pain relievers. It also stimulates respiration and circulation.
  4. Eucalyptus: The leaves of eucalyptus are used for extracting on oil which is used in the treatment of blocked nose and throat infections. It is also used as a mosquito repellent.

  1. Natural treatments were utilised in Ayurvedic procedures. India's rich biodiversity and ancient knowledge of herbal medicine led to reliance on medicinal plants.
  2. In olden days, such herbs were collected by roaming in the jungles.
  3. Such important medicinal herbs are now cultivated with care.
  4. Around the world, people have recognised the importance of Holy basil (tulsi), Adulsa, Jyeshthmadh, etc.
  5. In some of the allopathy. Medicines, too, plant extracts are used.
  6. Dangerous chemicals are used to make medicines, and these medicines should only be taken under medical guidance.

Therefore, herbal remedies are gaining popularity worldwide.
