Solution

  1. The Tribal movement dates back to the pre-independence era. The British government had deprived tribal people of their rights to livelihood on forest resources, and as a result of that, a tribal uprising took place in various parts of the country.
  2. Even after independence, the problem of earning a livelihood remains unresolved. Their right to gather forest products and to cultivate on forest land is not yet recognised.
  3. The British had prohibited the tribals from using the forest wealth to earn their livelihood.
  4. It included tribes such as Kolam (Chota Nagpur), Gond (Orissa), Koli Bhilla Ramoshi (Maharashtra), Santhal, and Munda (Bihar).
  5. The main demand of the tribal movement is that the government recognise their rights over forests and allow them to collect forest produce and cultivate forest land.
