उत्तर
- The Tribal movement dates back to the pre-independence era. The British government had deprived tribal people of their rights to livelihood on forest resources, and as a result of that, a tribal uprising took place in various parts of the country.
- Even after independence, the problem of earning a livelihood remains unresolved. Their right to gather forest products and to cultivate on forest land is not yet recognised.
- The British had prohibited the tribals from using the forest wealth to earn their livelihood.
- It included tribes such as Kolam (Chota Nagpur), Gond (Orissa), Koli Bhilla Ramoshi (Maharashtra), Santhal, and Munda (Bihar).
- The main demand of the tribal movement is that the government recognise their rights over forests and allow them to collect forest produce and cultivate forest land.
