GANDHI GIVES THE CALL FOR FREEDOM
Bombay, 9 August 1942: The Quit India Movement has begun with a powerful call from Mahatma Gandhi and the Indian National Congress demanding an immediate end to British rule. Gandhi gave the famous slogan “Do or Die”, urging Indians to remain determined in their struggle for independence.
Thousands of people across India have joined protests, strikes, and demonstrations. The British government has responded by arresting Gandhi and several other national leaders, but people continue to demand freedom.
A young freedom fighter said, “We are ready to face difficulties and make sacrifices for our motherland. India must be free.”
The Quit India Movement was important because it united millions of Indians and showed the British that their rule could no longer continue. It became one of the largest mass movements of the Freedom Struggle and strengthened the demand for complete independence. The movement played an important role in bringing India closer to independence in 1947.
