Solution

Environment refers to all the external factors and conditions that influence a person's growth and behavior, including family, culture, education, nutrition, social interactions, and life experiences. It plays a crucial role in shaping an individual's physical, mental, emotional, and social development.

While heredity provides the inborn potential, the environment nurtures and shapes that potential. For example:

  • A child may inherit intelligence but needs a stimulating environment and proper education to develop it.
  • Emotional support from family helps build confidence and social skills.
  • Good nutrition and healthcare support physical growth and brain development.

Environmental factors also include school, peer groups, media, and the overall social and cultural background. Therefore, a positive and enriching environment can greatly enhance a child’s development, while a negative or deprived one may hinder it. In short, the environment works hand in hand with heredity to determine the course of human development.
