Solution

“Education is that which remains, if one has forgotten everything one learned in school.”

Respected Chairperson, members of the jury, teachers and my dear friends,

I stand before you to support the motion that education is what remains after we have forgotten everything we learned in school.

In my humble opinion, education is much more than memorising facts, formulas and information. School gives us knowledge, but true education develops our ability to think, understand, solve problems and make wise decisions. These qualities remain with us even when we forget the details we studied.

For example, a student may forget a particular mathematical formula after leaving school, but the ability to reason logically and solve problems can remain throughout life. Similarly, lessons about honesty, discipline, cooperation and responsibility shape our character.

Einstein’s statement reminds us that the real purpose of education is not simply to fill our minds with information. It is to develop our personality, thinking and understanding of life.

I strongly feel that examinations and marks are only one part of education. A truly educated person should be able to apply knowledge to real-life situations and continue learning throughout life.

To conclude, education should leave behind curiosity, wisdom, values and the ability to think independently. I hope I have succeeded in convincing the House that Einstein’s view rightly explains the lasting purpose of education.

Thank you.
