Solution
Respected Principal, teachers and my dear friends,
It is a matter of pride for me to share my views on the topic “Merits of Democracy.”
What makes democracy so important? Why do people value the right to choose their representatives? Democracy gives citizens the power to participate in the government and express their opinions freely.
Democracy is based on the principles of liberty, equality and fraternity. It gives equal political rights to citizens and provides them an opportunity to elect their representatives. It also makes the government responsible and accountable to the people.
Another important merit of democracy is that it protects the freedom and dignity of individuals. People can raise their voice against injustice and can change the government through peaceful elections. Democracy also encourages discussion, debate and cooperation before important decisions are taken.
However, democracy can succeed only when citizens are responsible, educated and aware of their duties. We should respect the Constitution, follow the law and avoid blind hero-worship. We must also promote equality and brotherhood in society.
Dr. B. R. Ambedkar reminded us that political democracy must be supported by social democracy. Therefore, we should work together to strengthen the values of liberty, equality and fraternity.
I thank the organisers for giving me this opportunity to express my views and all of you for your patient listening.
Thank you.
