Solution
The two disadvantages of democratic leadership are as follows:
- Attaining Consensus is Time-Consuming: This leadership style requires more time to reach consensus than other styles. This is because everybody has the right to express their opinion or propose a new idea. Before an idea can be discarded, it must be thoroughly discussed. In larger groups, debates can delay efficiency gains as participants attempt to identify the best possible solution.
- It can Create Negative Emotions: If one team member’s ideas are used repeatedly, other team members may begin to dislike the way the team is run. They will avoid the process because they feel their opinions don’t matter. If you don’t keep your negative feelings in check, this type of leadership could make things less productive rather than more productive.
