Why was McCarthy discredited?

Short Answer

Solution

McCarthy was discredited because he made reckless and unproven accusations of communism against numerous individuals without credible evidence. People in the United States learnt about his rude and unethical behaviour during the Army-McCarthy hearings in 1954, which were shown on TV and made public. Because of this, he lost support from the public and politicians, and the U.S. Senate officially censured him, ending his power and authority.
