Solution
- Orographic Rainfall occurs when moisture-laden winds are forced to rise because of mountain barriers. This type of rainfall is the most common and widespread in the world.
- Since about 70 percent of Earth’s surface is water, moist winds often move from sea to land. Unlike this, convectional and cyclonic rainfall are not experienced everywhere or throughout the year.
- Due to the presence of numerous mountains and hill ranges, moist winds are obstructed, pushed upward, condensed, and then bring rainfall. The extent of this rainfall is very wide and found globally.
- By contrast, convectional rainfall is restricted to equatorial regions, and cyclonic rainfall mainly occurs in the temperate zones. Therefore, orographic rainfall is received in the highest proportion across the world.
