Question

Which organization provided the most widely accepted definition of sustainable development in 1987?

Options

• United Nations Environment Programme

• Brundtland Commission

• International Labour Organization

• World Wildlife Fund

Answer 1

The Brundtland Commission, established in 1987 by the World Commission on Environment and Development, provided the most widely accepted definition of sustainable development: 'development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.' This definition forms the foundation of modern sustainability concepts.
