Solution 2

Perihelion is the point in the earth’s orbit when it is closest to the sun. This occurs around January 3rd each year. At perihelion, the earth is about 147.4 million kilometers from the sun. Despite being closer to the sun during perihelion, the earth experiences colder temperatures in the northern hemisphere’s winter due to the tilt of its axis.
