Aphelion is the point in the earth’s orbit when it is farthest from the sun. This occurs around July 4th each year. At aphelion, the earth is approximately 152 million kilometers away from the sun. While the earth’s distance from the sun changes during its elliptical orbit, aphelion marks the maximum distance between the two.
