What governs the opening and closing of stomata?
Short Answer

Solution
The opening and closing of stomatal pores are controlled by the turgidity of guard cells. When guard cells take up water from surrounding cells, they swell to become a turgid body. This enlarges the pore in between and causes stomatal opening. When water is released, they become flaccid. This closes the pore in between, causing stomatal closing.
