1. Computers work with digital data, whereas telephone lines can carry only analog signals. Therefore, when a computer connects to the internet using telephone lines, its digital data must first be changed into analog form before being sent.
2. The process of changing a signal from one form to another is called modulation, and changing it back to its original form is known as demodulation.
3. A modem stands for modulator–demodulator. It is used to connect a computer to the internet. A modem converts digital data into analog data and also converts analog data back into digital form.
