Yes, Mr. and Mrs. Bramble were guided by preconceived notions about Harold. They assumed that because Harold was well-mannered, intelligent and interested in respectable things, he would look down upon boxing. Therefore, they went to great lengths to hide Mr. Bramble’s profession from him.

However, their assumption proved to be completely wrong. Harold was actually a great admirer of Young Porky, not knowing that the boxer was his own father. Their fear was therefore unnecessary and based on their own assumptions rather than Harold’s actual feelings. The story teaches us not to judge others without understanding them properly.
