• For example, in Vietnam, dense forests and jungles helped guerrilla fighters hide from enemy forces. In Afghanistan, the mountainous terrain made it difficult for larger armies to operate effectively. Similarly, Shivaji Maharaj used the hilly terrain and forts of the Western Ghats to carry out swift attacks and retreat safely.
