For example, in Act III, Scene VI, Lennox and a Lord subtly say they don’t trust Macbeth’s deeds. This shows that fear, mistrust, and oppression are growing in Scotland. They ask him in a sneaky way why he killed Banquo and made Macduff run away, because they can tell that fear and mistrust are growing. Their careful language shows how paranoid people are and how dangerous it is to speak out against the king.

In Act IV, Scene ii, Lady Macduff’s sorrow to her son about her husband leaving her and the bad times shows how many innocent people suffered under Macbeth’s rule.
