The level of water in a measuring cylinder is 12.5 ml. When a stone is lowered in it, the volume is 21.0 ml. Find the volume of the stone.

Solution
Level of water in measuring cylinder = V1 = 12.5 ml
When a stone is lowered, then the level of water in measuring cylinder
= V2 = 21.0 ml
Volume of stone = V2 − V1
V = 21.0 − 12.5
V = 8.5 ml
