Solution

Here, let the two numbers be:

Smaller number = x

Greater number = x + 4 (since the difference is 4)

According to the second condition:

6 × smaller = 4 × greater

6x = 4(x + 4)

6x = 4x + 16

6x − 4x = 16

2x = 16

x = `16/2`

∴ x = 8

So, the smaller number is 8, and the greater number is 8 + 4 = 12,

Hence, the numbers are 8 and 12.
