Solution
The soldiers went to war with determination and enthusiasm, believing in the purpose and glory of battle. The extreme violence, fear and loss they experienced shattered that confidence. They returned physically weakened and psychologically traumatised helpless and dependent like children, and deeply disturbed by what they had seen and endured.
