Solution

Given: Area = 150 cm2, base : corresponding altitude = 3 : 2.

Step-wise calculation:

1. Let base = 3x and altitude = 2x.

2. Area = base × altitude

⇒ (3x)(2x) = 6x2

3. Set 6x2 = 150

⇒ `x^2 = 150/6`

⇒ x2 = 25

⇒ x = 5   ...(Take positive)

4. Base = 3x

= 3 × 5

= 15 cm

Altitude = 2x

= 2 × 5

= 10 cm

Base = 15 cm and corresponding altitude = 10 cm.
