When the magnet is rubbed over the needle or nail from one end to the other 7–8 times, the needle or nail becomes magnetised. When a few pins are brought near it, the pins are attracted towards the needle or nail and stick to it.

This shows that a magnetic object such as a needle or nail can acquire magnetism by rubbing it with a magnet. However, the magnetism produced in this way is temporary and lasts only for a short time.
