2. 1. Area A (North-West India):
      
      • The light winter rain and snow from western disturbances supply soil moisture needed for rabi crops (especially wheat and barley) and help successful germination and growth.
      • In the Himalaya and higher altitudes, the precipitation falls as snow, which helps maintain snow‑packs and feeds rivers and groundwater during the melt season.
   2. Area B (Coromandel coast of Tamil Nadu):
      • The northeast monsoon provides the main seasonal rainfall for Tamil Nadu and the southern tip, supplying water for paddy and other crops, refilling reservoirs and tanks, and supporting irrigation and drinking water supplies.
      • These rains can be heavy and stormy at times, so while they are agriculturally vital, they may also cause local damage during strong systems.
