Solution

Fossils are the remains or evidence of ancient plant and animal life that have been buried in rock as molds, casts, or tracks, or as petrified hard pieces. Written records of evolution can be found in fossils.

The importance of fossils are:

  1. To research evolutionary history, often known as race history, or phylogeny. E.g., Horse evolution.
  2. To investigate the relationship that unites two groups of organisms. E.g., Archaeopteryx.
  3. To research animals that are extinct. E.g., dinosaurs.
  4. To study fossils found in various sedimentary rock layers in order to learn about geological periods. According to the study, living forms changed over time, and some are unique to particular geological periods.
