Solution
Ferrel’s Law states that the rotation of the Earth causes moving objects, such as winds, to be deflected from their straight path. Specifically:
- In the Northern Hemisphere, winds are deflected to the right of their path of motion.
- In the Southern Hemisphere, winds are deflected to the left of their path of motion.
This deflection increases towards the poles and is absent at the equator. The phenomenon is also known as the Coriolis Effect or Coriolis Force and explains the curved paths of winds rather than straight-line movement on the rotating Earth.
