Solution

Flat feet occur when fingers cannot glide under the arch of a person’s foot when standing in their normal position. For correcting functional flatfoot, the following corrective measures may be used:

  1. Emphasize activities that involve toe flexion, foot/ankle flexion, and supination.
  2. Individuals with flat feet should wear orthopaedic shoes with arch support.
  3. Avoid standing in one position for a long period of time or wearing heavy shoes.
  4. Patients may be recommended exercises such as rising on their toes, climbing stairs on their toes, skipping ropes, cycling, and more.
