Solution
The classical theory of federalism is based on the clear and rigid division of powers between the central and state governments, with both functioning independently within their respective spheres. However, recent trends have challenged this traditional understanding. The emergence of strong central leadership, especially during emergencies, has expanded the powers of the central government. Economic planning and globalization have further centralized decision-making, as states increasingly depend on the central government for financial aid and policy direction. The rise of interdependence among states and international influences has also led to overlapping functions and joint decision-making, which undermines the dual structure of classical federalism. Additionally, the growth of national-level political parties, which dominate both central and state governments, has reduced the autonomy of the states. Thus, while federal structures still exist, in practice there is a shift toward a more cooperative or even centralized model, affecting the pure form of classical federalism.
