Solution

Given:

2x + 3y = 8      ...(1)

2x = 2 + 3y      ...(2)

From equation (2),

2x = 2 + 3y

Substitute this value of 2x in equation (1):

2 + 3y + 3y = 8

2 + 6y = 8

6y = 8 − 2

6y = 6

y = 1

Now substitute y = 1 in equation (2):

2x = 2 + 3(1)

2x = 5

`x = 5/2`

Hence,

`x = 5/2`, y = 1
