Solve the following:
`8/x = 5/(x - 1)`
Advertisements
Solution
Given, `8/x = 5/(x - 1)`
⇒ 8(x – 1) = 5x ...[By cross-multiplication]
⇒ 8x – 8 = 5x
⇒ 8x – 5x = 8 ...[Transposing 5x to LHS and – 8 to RHS]
⇒ 3x = 8
⇒ `(3x)/3 = 8/3` ...[Dividing both sides by 3]
∴ `x = 8/3`
