Solution
- The cycling company offered Rahim a permanent pensionable job which satisfied his physiological and security needs. These needs are essential for survival. It is clearly mentioned from the statement ‘It was difficult for him to fulfil the basic needs of his family’. An individual may desire to find a secure job and stable income to meet daily requirements for survival.
- Two other needs which remain to be satisfied:
- Belongingness Needs: It refers to the social needs of an individual in terms of affection and acceptance. In other words, it refers to a feeling of belongingness to society.
- Esteem Needs: It comprises elements such as respect, dignity and recognition in the peer group.
- Three process of motivation
- Awareness of Need: Motivation begins with identifying a need or shortfall. The feeling of a need causes worry or stress in the person.
- Stimulus for Action: To satisfy a desire and relieve tension, a person takes action. Humans respond to hunger by taking actions to satisfy it. He works to make money so he can buy food. If he cannot find a job, he may resort to begging or stealing to survive. Feeling a need motivates goal-directed behaviour.
- Fulfilment of Need: When a person's needs are met, they feel motivated and less stressed. If an attempt fails, the demand remains unmet. In such a circumstance, the individual may look for an alternative action.
- Motivation is the desire to attain organisational goals or demands. Leadership refers to an individual or group's ability to influence and guide followers or members of an organisation.
