Solution

The four major pressure belts of the world are:

  1. The Equatorial Low Pressure Belt (also known as the Intertropical Convergence Zone or Doldrums) is located around 0° to 5° N and S of the equator.
  2. Sub-tropical High Pressure Belts are located around 25° to 35° N and S latitudes (also called Horse Latitudes).
  3. Sub-polar Low Pressure Belts are located between 55° and 65° N and S latitudes.
  4. Polar High Pressure Belts are located at the poles (around 90° N and S).

These belts alternate as high and low-pressure zones due to temperature differences and Earth’s rotation, with the equatorial belt being low pressure because of intense heating, and polar belts being high pressure due to cold, dense air.
