Solution
Mark Antony is one of the most powerful speakers in Julius Caesar. In his funeral speech, he does not openly attack Brutus at first. Instead, he uses irony, repetition, emotional appeal, Caesar’s wounds and the will to gradually turn the Roman crowd against the conspirators.
A modern comparison can be made with Barack Obama, whose major public speeches often used repetition, shared identity, hope and emotional appeals to connect with large audiences. His 2004 Democratic National Convention speech, for example, repeatedly stressed unity and common purpose to move listeners emotionally.
Both Antony and Obama show how effective oratory can combine carefully chosen words, repetition and emotion to influence a large audience. The difference is that Antony uses these techniques to provoke anger and revenge, while Obama’s cited speech uses them to encourage unity and collective purpose.
